Power line communications (PLC) are widely used for home networking. Nevertheless AC main lines are not designed to transmit PLC signals. Many studies showed that the power grid is a hostile environment not only for conducted signal transmission but also for radio spectrum. Propagation of electromagnetic waves is directly impacted by the electric and electronic devices connected to the network.

Firstly, a simple method is proposed to characterize the input impedance of electronic systems based on a de-embedding technique, from 1 MHz to 100 MHz. Then a test case is discussed. Finally different appliances are characterized.
