SICW 2024: France strengthens its cyber partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region
Once again, ANSSI partook in the SICW alongside its Asian and international partners, with the intention of promoting dialogue on the establishment of a stable and reliable cyberspace.
Sharing cybersecurity practices and innovations
Organised by the country’s Cyber Security Agency (CSA), the Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW) stands out as a strategic event for the promotion of international exchanges on the topic of cybersecurity, and provides ANSSI with an opportunity to strengthen France’s ties with the Asia-Pacific region.
This ninth edition of the event took place between the 14th and 17th of October 2024, and brought together South-East Asian leaders, political decision makers from various countries, industrial leaders, and scholars. The theme for this year was “Trust and Security in the Digital Era”. The objective was to reinforce international cooperation on topics such as the evolution of cyberspace, cybersecurity politics, the implementation of cyber norms, or the security of Internet of Things (IoT) and of Operational Technology (OT).
Appraisal of French expertise in securing large-scale events
This year, ANSSI was represented at the event by its Deputy Director General, Emmanuel Naëgelen, who took stock of the cyber events which occurred during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and addressed the challenges that come with securing large-scale international events.
French expertise was notably praised during the “Insights into 2024’s Cyber Threats” panel – during which Emmanuel Naëgelen shared the lessons learned from the security measures implemented with the Olympic and Paralympic ecosystem. This was an opportunity to highlight the importance of the preparation stage, of sharing the fundamentals of the proactive defence strategy deployed during the event, and of recalling the necessity of anticipating cyber threats in view of increasingly sophisticated attacks.
Strengthening international partnerships
On the margins of the event, exchanges were organised between ANSSI and its international and regional partners.
With regards to the topic of industry, the Deputy Director General had the opportunity to visit the France pavilion of the GovWare, where several French cybersecurity companies were present.
This visit also allowed Emmanuel Naëgelen to meet Mrs Minh-Di Tang, the French ambassador to Singapore, to discuss the main cyber challenges faced by Paris and Singapore
