Roles and missions of our departments
The Operations Department
Ensures, at the operational and tactical levels, the implementation of ANSSI's function as the authority for the defence of digital systems of interest to the Nation.
In this capacity, it carries out several missions:
Acquiring, developing, capitalising on and sharing knowledge regarding cyberthreat, as well as vulnerabilities of the digital systems protected by the agency.
Designing and implementing the national capacity to detect computer attacks and to operate a Security Operation Centre for the benefit of government services.
Notifying the alerts reported to ANSSI to the concerned entities and responding to security incidents affecting sensitive systems in the ecosystem.
Responding to security incidents affecting the defended systems and addressing all major cyber attacks while counteracting their adverse effects and ensuring the implementation of remedial actions by the victims.
Reporting to the Operations Department, the CERT-FR provides incident management support to the agency's main beneficiaries (State sphere, CNI/OES, local entities, etc) in particular by responding to the cyberattacks against them. As a national CERT, it is the main international point of contact for any cyber incident affecting France, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Expertise Department
The Expertise Department ensures ANSSI’s overall expertise and technical assistance mission
Including:
Participating in maintaining the state of the art in information technology and system security to help the State fulfill its sovereign missions.
Supporting State services and critical operators in the design and implementation of their digital services.
Sharing its know-how with the publication of best practices technical guides on current products.
Defining technical certification standards, evaluating and promoting an offer of trusted security products and services.
Managing a cyber security training center in charge of implementing ANSSI's training policy.
The Strategy Department
Contributes to the development and implementation of digital security public policy, communicates with ANSSI’s constituency and works to strengthen a network of key partners.
It relies on its in-depth knowledge of cyber security issues as well as on the technical and operational expertise of the other departments to:
Drive the strategic thinking of ANSSI to identify and understand security issues raised by digital transformation.
Guide ANSSI’s action by establishing regulatory frameworks, supporting beneficiaries in their understanding of digital issues and conducting inter-ministerial work on doctrine.
Ensure sectoral and territorial consistency regarding cybersecurity.
Promote the consideration of cyber security issues at national and European levels alongside ANSSI’s partners.
The Ressources Department
Support the definition of ANSSI's needs, and the execution of its missions
The Ressources Department has the transverse objective to support the definition of ANSSI's needs, and the execution of its missions. It is in charge of the programming as well as the deployment of the agency's ressources and, more particularly, of:
Supporting ANSSI's governance in order to accompany the executive management.
Implementing ANSSI's human resources policy.
Ensuring ANSSI's financial support.
Providing the legal assistance necessary for the exercise of ANSSI's missions.
Providng support functions.
